Intro

I'm a guy who took a somewhat non-traditional path through life. After figuring out that I wasn't ready for college I decided to join the Air Force. Instead of getting to travel the world I got to explore the high mountain deserts of Idaho and learned some cool stuff about networking and satellites along the way.

Born right here in the Bay, I was fortunate enough to do a lot of traveling from a young age. The military further exposed me to an incredibly diverse range of individuals. Mostly, I've learned that I love trying to figure out how best to talk to people, to hear their stories, and share my own. I love learning new things, whether that means teaching myself to code or trying out a new roast chicken recipe. For more details on my Air Force life, go here.

Work

In the military you rarely get to pick your job. Fortunately, I got lucky and landed a role as an RF Transmissions Systems Technician, a fascinating job with an incredibly broad range of skills. I worked on pretty much anything with a radio receiver or transmitter from walkie-talkies to tactical satellite communications terminals, and loved being exposed to such a niche world. I learned how to look at every system as a set of processes. What kind of process is being done to the signal at each piece of equipment, how do they all work together? Coming at things from a more abstract view allowed me to quickly transition between new equipment sets and troubleshoot unfamiliar gear.

One day, about five minutes before quitting time, I was called into the boss' office and told that I was to report to a different office the next morning for an entirely different job. Yikes.
